Baggage Information

Baggage Information

Baggage allowances are dependent on the fare basis purchased.
Excess baggage fees will apply for overweight baggage.

  • Premium Fare - 100lbs
  • Flex Fare - 75lbs
  • Basic Fare - 50lbs

Safety regulations require that all carry-on baggage conforms to the following specifications:

  • No more than two (2) pieces, when combined, not to exceed 20cm x 43cm x 38cm (8in x 17in x 15in). A sizing device is provided in each terminal.
  • The maximum combined weight for cabin baggage is 6kg (13lbs).
  • Purses 25cm x 30cm x 20cm (10in x 12in x 8in) or less are not counted as one of the two pieces allowed.
Pet Travel

Pets may travel as checked baggage only if accompanied by a passenger and are counted as the first piece of luggage. Rise Air will not accept pets as a cargo shipment. To assist you in travelling with your pet you must:

  • When making your reservation advise that you are travelling with a pet, and inform the agent of the type of animal, size, and kennel dimensions.
  • Check in at the airport 1 hour prior to the flight.

You will be charged a fee of $21.00 that must be prepaid.

All animals will travel in the cargo hold of the aircraft.* Due to limited space in the cabins of our aircraft, in consideration of passengers with environmental sensitivities, and to avoid the possibility of allergic reactions, pets, except for service animals travelling with customers who are disabled will not be transported in the cabin area.

To meet our transportation requirements all animals must travel in an airline approved kennel that:

  • Is hard sided and has a leak proof bottom.
  • Allows animals to comfortably stand up and turn around.

Animal travel may be limited or refused due to any of the following:

  • Failure to comply with the Transwest Air policy.
  • Aircraft type.
  • Aircraft is at maximum capacity.
  • Temperature of the cargo hold.

* The cargo space in the SAAB aircraft only is maintained at the same temperature as the cabin.

Firearms and Ammunition

Passengers are strictly forbidden to carry weapons unless the passenger is an on-duty peace officer. All firearms must be declared and transported in checked baggage.

If checking in a handgun, the passenger will present:

  • Registered firearm license PAL (Possession and Acquisition License).
  • Permit to carry or transport a firearm.
  • If checking in a rifle, i.e., hunting equipment, the passenger must:
    • Present their Registered Firearm License PAL (Possession and Acquisition License).
    • Unload the firearm.
    • Dismantle the firearm if possible, with the firing pin removed.
    • Keep the firearm in a rigid and locked case.

The passenger is required to fill out a “firearm unloaded tag” and place it inside the locked case and complete a firearm declaration.

Musical Instruments

Musical instruments may be accepted as carry-on baggage when they meet Rise Air’s carry-on size and weight requirements as noted.

All musical instruments must be stowed in the overhead compartment, under the seat, or in other approved locations at the discretion of the Rise Air customer service attendant after checking flight and baggage loads. Musical instruments may also be accepted as checked baggage when properly packed. Overweight and oversize fees may apply.

Liability Disclaimer - If a musical instrument is damaged or lost because of mishandling by Rise Air and requires repair and/or replacement and the instrument(s) was packaged properly, the maximum liability paid out will not exceed $2,300.00CAD.

All claims must include proof of original receipt or professional appraisal. If the passenger declares the monetary value of the musical instrument is greater than the maximum liability, the instrument is required to be shipped as cargo where a declared value can be established.

Alcohol

At the request of the Chief and Council in each of the “dry reserve” communities we serve, it is Rise Air’s policy to refuse shipments of alcohol to northern communities, including Uranium City and Points North. If alcohol is found in a passenger’s baggage or cargo, it will be removed and disposed of immediately. The passenger and/or shipper will not be compensated for the confiscated alcohol. Rise Air is not responsible for any confiscated alcohol.
