Pet Acceptance
At Rise Air, your pet’s welfare is a priority. To align with legislation, we have made changes to our policies regarding the transportation of animals on scheduled flights.
These changes do not affect Service Animals, which are specially-trained animals who perform tasks to assist a person with a disability.
From October 15, 2025:
- Animals are not permitted in the cabin area due to limited space and potential allergic reactions, except for service animals that assist customers with disabilities.
- No animals are accepted as checked baggage in our Beechcraft 1900D aircraft cargo hold at any time, due to temperature considerations.
Animal Carriers:
All animals must be transported in a hard plastic or metal airline-approved carrier with a leak-proof bottom and no top exit hatch. Wire lattice cages are not acceptable.
- Animals must be able to stand and turn around comfortably inside the carrier.
- A maximum of three animals from the same litter may be transported together in one container.
- The maximum size of the container/kennel (length + width + height) must not exceed 101 x 69 x 76 cm / 40 x 27 x 30 inches.
- The maximum allowable weight for both the animal and container/kennel must not exceed 75 kg / 165 lbs.
Animals under eight weeks old are not permitted unless accompanied by a letter of exception from a registered veterinarian.
24 hours’ notice must be given for reservations where a passenger is travelling with a pet (including type and weight of pet and size of kennel).
Passengers travelling on a standby ticket are not permitted to transport animals as checked baggage.
The animal must be travelling on the same flight as the passenger, and the passenger must check in with the pet at least one hour prior to departure.
A handling fee of $75 plus GST is charged to the passenger and must be prepaid.
For animal health and welfare reasons, animals will not be permitted as checked baggage between November 1 and March 31, unless transported on an ATR 42/72 and DHC-6 type aircraft.
The following breeds are restricted due to health and welfare risks during transport and will only be accepted for veterinary emergencies where proof of appointment is provided:

Important Notices:
If the Saskatoon cargo facility or any other northern base is closed, please do not leave your property unattended at our facilities. Without a valid Airway Bill confirming receipt of your items, Rise Air cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage. All items intended for shipment must be handed over directly to an authorized agent in person.
Rise Air’s shipping options are based on our operational days (working week). Rise Air does not fly a scheduled service for passengers or freight on Saturdays.
Space in refrigerators and freezers at our facilities is available on a first-come, first-served basis. We may have to refuse the receipt of perishables and frozen items until we can safely store them. At the request of the Chief and Council in each of the “dry reserve” communities we serve, it is Rise Air’s policy to refuse shipments of alcohol to northern communities, including Uranium City and Points North. If alcohol is found in a passenger’s baggage or cargo, it will be removed and disposed of immediately. The passenger and/or shipper will not be compensated for the confiscated alcohol. Rise Air is not responsible for any confiscated alcohol.
